Spanish Specialization

StFX is offering an off-campus BEd program in partnership with Chignecto-Central Regional Center for Education starting September 1, 2019. This three year program consists of six courses per year offered on weekends and evenings, plus a five week full-time practicum in years one and two and two practica in the final year.  The Faculty of Education and the Spanish Department of St. Francis Xavier University are collaborating to offer a specialization in Spanish beginning in the 2013-14 school year.  Increasingly, across Canada and throughout North America, the demand for Spanish teachers is on the rise and StFX Education graduates will soon be able to take advantage of these opportunities.

Undergraduate students who are interested in pursuing this specialization must have good oral and written fluency and must present a minimum of 18 credits of undergraduate study in Spanish in their undergraduate degree for a minor teachable or 30 credits for a major teachable.  Education methodology will include a blend of theory in the teaching of Spanish, language lab experience, and practicum. There may also be an opportunity for an international practicum associated with this specialization. A personal interview is required as part of the application process.
