What is sexual violence?

Sexual violence is a broad category that includes many different kinds of actions and behaviors that use sexuality in a harmful way. It includes sexual assault, as well as:

  • Criminal Harassment: stalking (online, over the phone, in person)
  • Voyeurism: spying, watching or filming someone without consent
  • Indecent Exposure: exposing yourself or touching yourself sexually in view of someone without their consent
  • Non-Consensual Distribution of Intimate Images: sharing a nude or sexual images of another person without their consent
  • Sexual Harassment: sexualized behavior that is known or ought reasonably to be known as unwelcome OR that confers a benefit (i.e. sex for a promotion, sex for grades, etc…)
