I am a 2004 graduate of the St. Francis Xavier School of Nursing. Upon graduation, I returned to my home in Winnipeg where I worked in a chronic care respiratory unit. I moved back to Nova Scotia in 2005. I worked as a fulltime staff nurse gaining experience in geriatrics, medical-surgical nursing, mental health and then finally focusing on perinatal nursing. I began teaching with the School of Nursing in 2009.
I work primarily with second and third year nursing students. I have supervised skills labs, simulation, perinatal nursing, adult medical-surgical nursing and geriatric clinical placements. I coordinate the Cooperative Nursing Experience and am a member of the Nursing Practice Committee for GASHA. I also supervise Advanced Major students.
I am married and the mother of 2 boys, ages 20 and 16. I am currently a student in the Master of Adult Education Program here at STFX. My area of research interests are transformative learning, transition and resilience. I also maintain a private business offering HypnoBirthing prenatal classes to expectant parents. I have recently begun as a second assistant for homebirths with Saint Martha’s midwifery program.
