All About My Mother - Young Esteban wants to become a writer and also to discover the identity of his second mother, a trans woman, carefully concealed by his mother Manuela.  After Esteban's tragic death on his 17th birthday, Manuela quits her job and journeys to Barcelona, where she hopes to find her son's father, Lola.  Instead she is reunited with old friends, but tragedy strikes again.  

TW:  This film contains portrayals of violence (sexual and otherwise) and drug use.

Latinx Youth Response to the "Trump Effect" - St. Francis Xavier Jules Léger Lecture Series

Scholars have shown an increase in racial discrimination and hate crimes since Trump’s election—what is dubbed the “Trump effect.” The Pew Research Center found that nearly half of Latinxs report that discrimination based on their ethnicity and/or race has worsened since Trump’s election. While it is clear that Latinxs are among the targets of nativism, how Latinxs experience and respond to this increasingly hostile climate remains in question. Two findings emerge from interviews with 40 Latinx young adults ages 18-25 in Chicago.

The German Society, Friends United, and The Gallery proudly present the 2nd Annual Indigenous Art Exhibition at St.FX.

On October 16 at 5:15pm you are invited to the opening of our exhibition.
The exhibition will be featuring the work of Jay Bell Redbird and Halina Stopyra as well as some of their collaborations.

Addresses by Dr.Kent MacDonald, president of Saint Francis Xavier University, Marlis Lade, German coordinator and a smudging ceremony conducted by Kerry Prosper,Pak’tnkek First Nation will begin at 5:30pm.

Dr. Isabelle Baugé (Department of Modern Languages) will present French artist Benjamin Lacombe's illustrated editions of three 19th-century novels (Hugo's Notre-Dame-de-Paris, Mérimée's Carmen and Carroll's Alice in Wonderland).
The evening will be an opportunity to talk about literature, architecture, cinema (Peter Greenaway, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Tim Burton), opera...
We will also discuss the importance of the book as object in the digital age and the role of the senses in the reading process.
