As of yesterday, June 21st, access to the student fleet of Konica printers has been unavailable. IT Services continues to work to restore the service.

Your role in cybersecurity

You play a critical role in the defense against malware and phishing emails. During the past few weeks, StFX has been targeted with a higher than normal volume of spam and phishing email. These messages contain fake notices regarding account closures/upgrades, package/file delivery, order status or transaction. Most messages contain an attachment with an infected file or a link to a malicious website and many are crafted to look like official StFX notices.

These messages are intended to infect your computer with malware or capture your password.

PHISHING EMAIL ALERT

PHISHING EMAIL ALERT SUBJECT LINE  “Security Alert (StFX University)”

 IT Services has received reports of a StFX email accounts receiving a malicious email message this afternoon. This message had a subject line of “Security Alert (StFX University)” This message did not originate from IT Services.   
Spam (unsolicited messages) and phishing (attempts to acquire information) emails commonly target all email accounts. IT Services recommends using the following tips to protect yourself from such emails:

Reminder -Copyright Infringement Notices ­ What You Need to Know

Under a provision of the Canadian Copyright Act, if you use the StFX network to download content (e.g., books, images, music, movies, or TV shows) which may have been illegally posted to the Internet, it is possible that you could receive a copyright infringement notice related to this activity.

TELEPHONE SYSTEM MAINTENANCE

Beginning at 8:15pm today, Bell Aliant will be performing maintenance on the telephone system. This maintenance is expected to last for 2 hours, during which time outages may occur. If you have any concerns please contact IT Services.

* On Good Friday, IT Services will be running reduced hours of operation. We will be open from 12pm-5pm.

MALICIOUS EMAIL ALERT SUBJECT LINE  “Receipt of APPROVED purchase!”  IT Services has received reports of a StFX email accounts receiving a malicious email message this afternoon. This message had a subject line of “Receipt of APPROVED purchase!” This message contains a suspicious attachment. IT Services recommends deleting this message.

NETWORK SERVICE INTERRUPTION ON THURSDAY MARCH 23 

Eastlink will be performing required network maintenance between 3:00 AM and 5:00 AM on Thursday March 23. During this time period there will be disruptions to network services on campus.
